Hotels in Northampton and Northamptonshire with special offers and weekend breaks

Northampton is easy to find - right in the heart of the country at a crossing of major routes both north-south and east-west. Add to this excellent rail links and waterways and there is really no excuse not to visit the town for a short break or weekend break. Northampton is a vibrant energetic place by day and by night. Once famous around the world as England`s `shoe town`, it is now beginning to be known as `motor city` with Silverstone Circuit, Santa Pod and Rockingham speedways close-by. Northampton offers a range of facilities to rival that of any city and a trip around the county will take you through rolling farmland, picturesque villages, woodland and thriving market towns.
At Northampton`s hub is the historic Market Square. Over 750 years old it remains one of the largest open-air markets in the country. The ancient churches of Northampton reflect part of its history, All Saints Church built on the site of a great Norman church, All Hallows, which was almost completely destroyed by the Fire of Northampton in 1675. All that remained was the medieval tower and the fine vaulted crypt, but by 1680 All Saints had been rebuilt, with the help of donations from all over England, including 1,000 tons of timber from King Charles II. Fine plasterwork ceilings by Edwin Gouge, Sir Christopher Wren's chief plasterer, and Inigo Jones portico.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Sheep Street, is the largest and best preserved of the 4 remaining round churches in England, dating from 1100 and built to commemorate the first Crusade. There are extensive naves (about 1300), brass, pews, bosses, a flag locker, Crusader window and Northamptonshire regiment memorials.
Northampton Museum and Art Gallery also reflects the history of the town with a collection of footwear through the ages, Italian 15-18thC paintings and ceramics. There are also displays of Northampton's history from earliest times to the present day using objects, sound and films. The Shoe Galleries reflect the importance of the collection both nationally and internationally. Step back into a world of shoes.
For nightlife there are a casino, clubs, pubs and restaurants, all popular with out-of-town revellers at weekends, and the town also boasts two superb theatres. For sports enthusiasts there`s premier league rugby with `The Saints`, football at Sixfields and county cricket.
